Chapter 1: Mass Communication

What first caught my attention about this textbook is the fact that it mentioned events such as the Bill Clinton scandal and the War in Iraq as well as TV shows such as The Simpsons. It’s nice to have a textbook for once that isn’t filled math equations or facts with the most recent dating 30 years before the current date. The first chapter was eye opening for me in that I grew up with things such as television and newspapers since I was little and never really thought much of them or what specific information is channeled through them or how it affects the population’s everyday lives and opinions. It is much easier to learn when the material being taught about is something so familiar and tangible to you. So this first chapter’s information about the spread of media from mouth to paper to technology was a good review for me.
